The New Fibers exhibitions seek to present contemporary fiber art in a broad range of forms, from textiles rooted in traditional processes and materials, to sculpture, conceptual, and installation art.    Participation in New Fibers is open to all fiber artists, 18 years and older, living in the United States.  Current work created in all fiber media and/or using fiber techniques is eligible for inclusion.  

FAN’s fourth biennial exhibition, New Fibers 2010, showed October 28th through December 10th at the University Art Gallery, Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan. Catalogs are available for $5 (check made out FAN) from Jill Ault, 2531 Meade Ct., Ann Arbor, MI 48105.

On October 28th, Tracy Krumm, exhibition juror, announced the following awards:

First Place ($1000) Suzanne Hesh Tucson, Arizona “Common Truth” 36” x 50” thread, acrylic paint; embroidery

Second Place ($750): the Ann Arbor Fiberarts Guild Award Amy Gross Boca Raton, Florida “Red Blooming Biotope” 12” x 25” x 10” beads, ribbon, yarn, wire, paper; sewn and embroidered to sphere

Third Place ($500): Michigan Surface Design Award Donna Rosenthal New York, New York “Superwomen” 18” x 35” x 10” vintage romance novels and comics, gel medium, glitter, steel hangers

Pat Williams Memorial Award ($250): a special award in memory of Pat Williams, who was a Professor of Textiles at Eastern Michigan University and an artist who worked with jacquard weaving Jodi Colella Wellesley, Massachusetts "One Day” 48” x 43” x 12” repurposed plastic newspaper sleeves collected daily by artist and community
